My Precious Vanilla Buttercream
Hello bakers! Frodo here! Presenting you with my favorite frosting, My Precious Vanilla Buttercream.
I’m going to have a hard time letting go of this recipe. With its perfect taste and creamy texture, it’s almost addictive.
This is a simple American buttercream that’s perfect for cakes, cookies or anything else you could dream of baking. The texture is perfect for decorating, if you’re feeling fancy. Add a little food coloring or add sprinkles after you frost for a splash of color.
This recipe is also very adaptable. Too runny? Add more powedered sugar. To thick? Add more milk. Too sweet? Add a little salt. While I recommend using heavy whipping cream, you can also use half-and-half or whole milk for the same result. Make this recipe your own!
Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter (softened to room temperature)
- 4-5 cups confectioner’s sugar
- 1/4 cup heavy cream, half-and-half or whole milk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- salt, to taste (I usually use around 1/4 teaspoon)
Instructions
- With a handheld mixture or standmixer using the paddle attachment, beat butter on medium speed until creamy (about 2 minutes).
- Add 4 1/2 cups confectioner’s sugar, heavy cream and vanilla extract. Beat on low for 30 seconds then increase speed to medium-high for around 2 minutes. Taste. If it’s too sweet, add salt (I always add some, but it’s purely personal preference).
- At this point the texture is up to you. Add that extra 1/2 cup of sugar if it’s too thin or add heavy cream 1 tablespoon at a time if it’s too thick. Make sure to taste after this to see if more salt is needed.
- Now is the time to add food coloring if so desired. Have fun with it!
I hope this frosting becomes as much of a staple for you as it is for me! Enjoy! Until next time, Frodo!
