Harry and Frodo’s Chocolate Muffins (Omg our first post!!)
Hello, and welcome to our first recipe on Bomb Factory Bakes! Frodo Baggins here—I’m so glad I got the honor of publishing our first post! To begin, I wanted to share one of our favorite muffin recipes—which we decided to call Frodo’s Humble Double-Chocolate Muffins. (Harry convinced me to keep the name!) And they certainly are “humble;” these muffins are quite simple, made from everyday ingredients you can find easily. But even in their simplicity, this breakfast has a shine to it and magnificent taste that will get you pumped for the day ahead. From the milk to the all-purpose flour, this recipe is made up of wholesome, natural ingredients. The sugar adds a special kick, though, and the chocolate chips bring a gooey swirl to the table.
Now, everyone had a part in making these muffins, but they’re really my specialty, so I thought I should be the one to chronicle these for the website. I always loved making these muffins, because they combined Harry’s love of chocolate with my love of baking muffins, so I was especially excited to make these for my first ever BFB! post.
Lately, everyone has gone their own separate ways, and though we still keep in touch, I’ve been missing the good time I used to have with my brothers. It was ultimately nostalgia that prompted my return to these muffins. Living at Bag End I’m constantly surrounded by mouth-watering (and often rich!) breakfast foods. I think Bilbo gets a little bored in his retirement sometimes, especially since he had such an exciting adventure in his youth (it’s a long story), so he has a tendency to “over bake,” as I like to tell him. But the more goods the merrier! Part of the joy of baking is sharing the magic, and I know it warms my day to give my gardener Sam a freshly baked, fluffy chocolate muffin when he shows up for work, a direct tie to my old life and new!
Before we get into baking, I’d like to share a happy memory I have of one of the first times I made this recipe with my brothers.

It was early on in our Bomb Factory days, though we were all there. It was sunny outside, but the atmosphere inside was quite far from that. James Bond was having one of his days, slouching around the Bomb Factory with such a tragic air that its like I could hear the violins playing. I tried to cheer him up, but it was difficult. It was quite clear that James was hit with Bomb Factory Ennui that day. Out of all of us, James was the most unsatisfied with his lifestyle. I told him to not be ungrateful, saying “who knows, James. Maybe one day you’ll become a spy and this bomb building knowledge will be invaluable.” And look where he is today! But that’s beside the point of our baking site. Back to my tale!
Harry wasn’t faring much better either. He woke up sick, grumpy because of it, and saddened by a long days work of bomb making ahead of him.
I tried to help both of my brothers, but it was hard, especially between the both of them. I spent my break trying to help Harry, and making sure he didn’t accidentally blow us up in his head fog. When I wasn’t doing that, I was trying to cheer up James by at least spending time close to him, but he kept slipping away into the depths of the factory. Discouraged, I thought to myself, how am I supposed to cheer up my brothers?
Then it hit me. Baking, of course!

We took cut our bomb making early that day, and, secretly, I start baking. It took me a little bit to decide what to make, naturally. It had to be perfect, to cheer everyone up. I know Harry loved chocolaty things so that at least set me in the right direction. I decided on muffins, because breakfast was a meal that brought everyone together. And I wanted James Bond to be reminded of his brothers, to let him know that he still had family.
So chocolate muffins it was! The recipe was quite simple, and I recommend it to anyone tired, maybe from a long day of grueling factory work. And they don’t take long to cook, so we didn’t have to wait long for their delightful taste.
My brothers were eventually drawn to the kitchen, once the muffins were out of the oven and their wholesome smell was wafting through our home. And, my, how happy they were! We all sat down together to enjoy such tasty muffins, but, as with any good meal, it was each other’s company that made the night more than anything else.
Not to say those muffins weren’t utterly delicious!
Every time I bite into these muffins, I think about the warm and happy memory of this early Bomb Factory night, and I always feel happier (and a little less lonely). So, without further ado, here’s Frodo’s Humble Double Chocolate Muffin recipe!
